What is good, fast, easy to to feed a Quaker Parrot?

Question by jon: What is good, fast, easy to to feed a Quaker Parrot?
My Quaker Parrot started plucking all his feathers out so I took him to a vet and they told me that I should be feeding him anything except for onions and avocados. That was a surprise because the pet store told to feed him seeds only. I always keep seed in his cage so if he gets hungry but I also try to give him some fresh fruit and vegetables everyday. Sometimes I am not home for a day or two and I doubt the people I live will take the time to give him fresh fruit. I know I am probably not the best person in the world to have this bird but he has been my friend for the last 10 years so I really hate to give him up. Plus in the near future I may get to be home more often so I will have time to take better care of him. My question is whats something that I can give him before I leave so he will have something to eat other than seeds? I was thinking some kind of trail mix, with dried apples, bananas, and raisins. Is this a bad Idea or is there something else that would be better?
thanx
So is there any good premixed food that will stay good for a long time that I can give him? I always try to give him fresh food but I just don’t always have time. What would be better than seeds?

thanks again
I know he probably gets a little lonely and that also has to do with his feather plucking. He does have lots of toys but the odd thing is he never plays with them. He has toys that are two years old that look like their brand new. That just seems odd because most birds with play with and basically shred their toys within a month or two. Could their be a reason he doesn’t play with his toys? Is there any thing else that could make him pluck his feathers?

thanks again
I never thought of feeding him a can of mixed vegetables before, that is a good idea. What about a bag of frozen mixed vegetables? I think frozen vegetables would last longer than an open can. Could I just microwave a handful everyday day or two to give him or is that a bad idea?
thanks

Try some tubers, like sweet potato. A lot less sweet than granola or anything else and can last for a few days without turning bad.

Please answer! What disease killed my beloved parakeets? What can I do to protect my Quaker Parrot from it?

Question by Megan: Please answer! What disease killed my beloved parakeets? What can I do to protect my Quaker Parrot from it?
My parakeets seemed to feel really lethargic and weak. They wouldn’t sing with me and could barely fly. I unexpectedly found my parakeet on the bottom of the cage dead Thursday when I came home from school. This morning I discovered my other parakeet’s lifeless body on the bottom of the cage like the other one. I can’t stand to lose my Quaker Parrot too. How can I protect him from this evil disease?
We buried the dead birds outside. Well, my Quaker Parrot is okay and healthy so far. I doubt there are any vets nearby that treat birds.

more information is needed. I would consult an avian vet.

my quaker parrot is one year old and still doesn’t fly?

Question by Kiki: my quaker parrot is one year old and still doesn’t fly?
My green quaker, Elvis *cuz he goes crazy when he hears Elvis Presley music* is a year old and 2 months and still doesn’t know how to fly. Should I be worried? I mean, I don’t think its cuz he’s fat and he’s never had his wings clipped. He’s very friendly and gets along with everyone so I want him to learn how to fly to my shoulder instead of me walking all the way to his cage and picking him up. Any help is greatly appreciated :D

~Kiki
Also, I have 2 budgie parakeets *Moosen and Nuggit* and they learned how to fly very quickly, we haven’t even had them for a year yet. That’s why I’m curious

Green cheek conure or Quaker parrot? 10 points to best answer!!?

Question by emsbaby: Green cheek conure or Quaker parrot? 10 points to best answer!!?
Okay so I thought for sure that I was set on a Quaker parrot and then I see this green cheek conure come up. Now I don’t know which one to choose! Ive been doing a lot of research on both. I have the time and I have a nice big cage. I’m looking for a bird that’ll want to be with me and be more cuddly. Talking is a plus but not necessary. Also too I live in west Virginia which is a tiny state and there are no breeders here so I’m going to have to order a bird offline which I hate to do but I have to! We have one petstore but they’re wanting literally 900 dollars for their conures an you can get them online fo like 250.. And they neglect their animals so the petstore is out. Price doesn’t matter they’re both around the same price. I just want a smart cuddly bird. Please help me decide or give your input!

I don’t know too much about the quakers but i know the green cheeks are very friendly and some of the quieter species of parrots. Green cheeks are very playful and loving and are a lot of fun to watch play. Both should be able to bond well with you but be sure to get a hand raised bird as they are already used to human contact and easier to train and handle. I hope this helps you in some way and good luck with whatever little friend you choose to get.

My Quaker Parrot Kyo is being mean now, what should I do? D=?

Question by Altair_Gimmik: My Quaker Parrot Kyo is being mean now, what should I do? D=?
My Quaker Parrot Kyo, when I last sent “Ask” Question I checked up on Kyo and Boy he was talking like crazy! I was so surprised! On the day I sent the message of his ill-ness he starts to talk.
I try to pick him up but he ran towards me and bit me really hard.
He NEVER ever bit me before and that just stund me. He loves to be held and pet but he started acting really odd.
Not being himself. Now when ever I get near his cage he starts chargeing at me and I feel so un-loved. All that attention I’ve been giving him.
I need some advice of how to make sure he won’t bite me, or is the ill-ness getting to him?

Best answer:

Answer by Wilt
If he has had a previous illness that could very well be it. He may be in pain and although he doesn’t mean to harm you, instinct tells him to protect himself the only way he knows how. Take him to the vet and get him checked out again, and try to give him a little space see if he comes around.

Quaker Parrot says Peek-a-boo

This must be from her former life with her 1st owner…or, TV. All of a sudden it was just there. All the other noise, whistles and clicks are from my African Grey in the cage off to our left.
