My Bird Just Vomited?
Question by Chrisitana: My Bird Just Vomited?
My Quaker Parrot just shook her head side to side and the spit up. I did research and it seems as if she had just vomited and didnt regurgitate. Is she sick? She seems perfectly fine…
Please Help! Everything is appreciated!!
Thank you all for your great imput! My bird seems ok now.. I think it might have been the seed she was eating we changed her diet to a more healthier diet. She is talking, and her poop is not runny, and it does not have a smell. When she vomited it did not have a smell to it either but it had many seeds in it. I will keep you all updated, if she looks like she is not feeling well. Once again thank you all!

IF your bird actually vomited rather than regurgitated then she needs to be evaluated by a qualified avian vet.

Button Quails Button Quails!! : D?
Question by Eljay Taylor: Button Quails Button Quails!! : D?
Hi,
I am researching and considering raising button quails. I have a great deal of experience with birds, so I have an idea of what I am getting into. I have two cockatiels and a quaker parrot, and have taken in sick birds quite often. I just wanted to know some first hand experience from owners, tell me a little about what they are like. I’d also like to get some price ranges please!
Thanks!!! : )

I have some friends who have had button quail so I can tell you about them. They are fairly quiet birds that like to stay on the ground. Button quail are often afraid of the dark and can panic and get injured. There needs to be enough light for them to see to prevent this from happening. You’ll also need soft padding in the quail’s cage to prevent injury. Button quail will eat finch seed, hard-boiled eggs which are chopped up into tiny pieces, dry canary food, shredded greens, and thawed mixed vegetables. They will also eat insects. Button quail require grit to digest their food, as they don’t hull their seeds like most other pet birds. Button quail can be kept in an aviary with most species of finches. They can bond with their owners.
Here is an excellent link to button quails that has plenty of information:

my bird’s not sick is he??
Question by mepersonhaha: my bird’s not sick is he??
well first off, he’s a quaker parrot
he lives at my dad’s house
i went there today to take care of him, and i noticed that on the top of his head theres a small area where feathers are missing, and skin is showing
it’s kind of raw
i think it’s because his nails are getting awfully long
and i’m working on finding a place to get his nails clipped
because the place we used to go to closed down
and he always scratches the top of his head with his feet
so i think he’s scratching the feathers off because his nails are so friggin long
is anything else wrong???

what is wrong with my parrot ?
Question by Joy Park: what is wrong with my parrot ?
i have a quaker parrot & it’s the 2nd day it’s been sick .
it just keeps sleeping in the corner of its cage & does nothing all day . it doesn’t even speak , doesn’t make a single sound . it refuses to eat anything that we tried to give & when it does drink some water , it throws up . & when it poops , it’s not the usual color , instead it’s white & milky but thick …
a portion of its tongue turned white / gray & it keeps staying puffed up .
it seems very tired & it keeps closing its eyes often …
what can i do other than taking it to a vet ?
& also , its tail keeps staying down …
& we feed it mineral water daily also …

I don’t want to come across as rude but..he really needs to see an avian veterinarian. If a bird is showing signs of illness, it’s not good. He’s definitely ill. Call your vet and see if you can bring him in and get on a payment plan (if money is the issue). Making your bird suffer is not being a responsible owner. Do everything you can to get him well.

my heart is broken. my quaker parrot just died about 2 hours ago. i love him so much. i miss him talking to me?
Question by amber: my heart is broken. my quaker parrot just died about 2 hours ago. i love him so much. i miss him talking to me?
i dont know what to do. im so sad and everytime i walk past his cage in my kitchen i burst into tears. he was a male quaker parrot that i’ve had for years. it was so cute because he was so protective of me. my husband could not even come and give me a kiss and my little birdie would jump off his cage and run over and climb up the couch and climb up my shirt and sit on my shoulder and act like he owned me. i would hold him and look at him and say ” i love you, good boy, and he would reapeat it and keep saying it over and over. he would shake his head all over and kinda do this cute little dance. i miss him so much. i would fall asleep with him alot of nights laying on the couch. then i would wake up at 2 in the morning to go to bed and he would be all snuggled against my face. of course there would be birdie poop all over my shirt but if your’e a bird lover you learn to see past all that. i feel so sick, i have this rock in the pit of my stomach that i cant get rid of. i dont know how to deal with this. i was not prepared at all. i always just kept saying that he would be here for a long time. ive cried so much tonight my cheeks are red and tear stained. my husbands gone to sleep right now because he has to get up for work so i cant really talk to him. i’m just so broken hearted. i feel like ive lost my best littlest friend. and i know i will never find another birdie like him, there is deffinetly no birdie, out there that will compare to my little chavez.
