Quaker Parrot and his strange noise?

My quaker parrot seems to be very happy and sweet. He makes some kind of noise and it sounds like a purr. Is this a happy noise or does it mean he’s annoyed?

How do I get my quaker parrot to stop biting?
Question by mscott425: How do I get my quaker parrot to stop biting?
“Sunny” is 6 months old. There are many people in my household and he only bites two people. My husband and my sister. We can’t figure out why he just bites them and I would love to get the bird to be nice to them so they can enjoy him too.

First you’d need to know if you have a male and female. Next their age would be good to know too. Usually a good age for quakers to breed is 18 months. Quakers lay anywhere up to 7 eggs in a clutch (usually around 5 is common), and they hatch after 24 days. The female will lay one egg every other day, and start to incubate after the second or third egg is laid.

I am going to get a smaller parrot but i am stuck between a Quaker Parrot and a Parrotlet?
Question by Soul: I am going to get a smaller parrot but i am stuck between a Quaker Parrot and a Parrotlet?
I am getting another parrot but i can’t decide between a Parrotlet or a Quaker. I need one that is not as loud and one that is relatively easy to take care of compared to the other parrots. it also has to be good with kids and be able to stay home when i’m working. i can get it a companion if i need to. which one would be best?

Answer by Colette O
Quakers can be very loud and are illegal in a number of states.
Parrotlets aren’t loud birds and are generally considered appropriate for apartments – however they aren’t really good around small children because they are so small themselves. Many die in accidents: they are stepped on, sat on, etc. They may also be nippy around small children.
Have you considered a cockatiel or a budgie?

Within the next few months I hope to be getting a quaker parrot, just a few months old. I have a double yellow?
Question by mutt: Within the next few months I hope to be getting a quaker parrot, just a few months old. I have a double yellow?
amazon already and have had her for years. I need some helpful tips on trying to get my amazon not to be jealous of the quaker, or hurt the quaker. Any help on trying to let my amazon not be jealous, but will need time to let the quaker get use to its new surroundings?

Answer by sarahwdw
First, don’t cage them together. Monk or quaker parrots are social birds, they build one massive nest and a bunch of quakers will live in them year round or at least they do in Texas. Amazon parrots aren’t as social and when they are nesting they will fight off or even kill other birds that they feel a threat to their nest. Even when you house different types of Amazon parrots together, like a double yellow head and a blue front, one bird will always be dominant and they will occasionally fight. In your case, the Amazon is so much bigger than a quaker, the quaker could get hurt, so keep them apart.

Would my cockatiel be friendly towards a quaker parrot?
Question by Someday: Would my cockatiel be friendly towards a quaker parrot?
i have a 4year old cockatiel and she is really sweet. I also had two parakeets years ago that were very old and when one of them died i put the other with my cockatiel. and my cockatiel didnt mind at all, she was a little scared at first but they became good friends really quickly.
now after 3 years my parakeet died of old age.
and a friend is giving away a quaker parrot.
i was wondering will they get along? My cockatiel seems really lonely and i want to get her a new friend.
thanks

This could be really tricky, seeing as the Quaker is so much larger than the ‘tiel. Your ‘tiel could easily be scared or get territorial, or the Quaker could act aggressively and really hurt your ‘tiel. You should most likely just keep them in separate cages. Plus, if you’re giving them both enough attention they shouldn’t need cagemates.
