How can I get my brother’s Maltese dog to get along with my Quaker parrot?
Question by MCR ADDICT: How can I get my brother’s Maltese dog to get along with my Quaker parrot?
He just got his dog, and the other day it attacked my bird. How can I get them to get along? The dog is 4 years old, and the parrot, I’m not sure how old he is exactly because we found him.
Best answer:
Answer by Emily
You can’t, really – the dog has natural prey drive, and it sees the parrot as prey. Make sure you keep the bird where the dog can’t get at it, and don’t let the bird out unless the dog is shut out of the room.

How can I get my Quaker Parrot to stop biting?
Question by Madison Southern: How can I get my Quaker Parrot to stop biting?
I have had my parrot for about a year and i love him very much but sometimes he will bite me and it really hurts! I don’t think he means too but does anyone know why he mite be doing this or how I can stop him from doing it? Maybe I am not spending enough time with him, how much time should I spend with him each day? Thank you!!!(:

Answer by srfcasey
Try to spend as much time as possible with him. Let him out of the cage and just let him hang out with you. One year old is still young and he’s learning. They use their beaks for everything – and also to express their emotions – anger, fear, and sometimes love as they don’t realize the power of their love bites! My Quaker is very affectionate. When he bites I yell ‘Ow that hurts!’ It makes him stop and it seems like he tries to be gentler after. He even says ‘I’m sorry’ now! They are great companions. Very smart – just handle him as much as possible

Quaker Parrot doing wierd thing with his beak?
Question by gracenglory75: Quaker Parrot doing wierd thing with his beak?
This is plainly curiosity, as well as being driven a littel bit nuts, causing me to ask this!
Every night, about 7ish, my Quaker parrot begins doing this thing with his beak. It’s hard to explain, but it’s almost like he’s sharpening it, top beak against bottom beak. It makes this rasping/clicking sound. It can go on for hours, until I put him to bed. What in the world is he doing!?
Best answer:
Answer by John P
This is called beak grinding. Quakers do this when they are contented and happy.
So your Quaker is telling you that he has had a wonderful day and is very contented!!
Congratulations.

What should I do if my new 6 month old Quaker parrot isn’t eating or drinking anything?
Question by Anonymous: What should I do if my new 6 month old Quaker parrot isn’t eating or drinking anything?
We got him on Saturday to cheer up my younger sister because her Quaker passed away a while ago, but he hasn’t eaten or drank water since Saturday. I know it takes time for it to recognize and not be afraid of you, but it isn’t eating and I’m worried because I don’t want anything to happen.

yes as long as it is a male and female for if they are same sex you will likely end up with a dead bird, for they will fight for dominancy. have fun

How long does it take before a Quaker Parrot begins to fly?
Question by Tha InFLu3nCe*: How long does it take before a Quaker Parrot begins to fly?
I have a baby quaker, he is about 10 to 12 weeks… I also have a parakeet, not sure of his exact age, but he’s a little older… the 2 are best friends and the parakeet always trys to gets the quacker parrrot to fly with him, but the quaker cant fly yet… i was just wondering, how much longer until he can take off??
Best answer:
Answer by Orthinologist
The parrot actually has to learn to fly. So if he tries doing this himself then it could take much longer. Hopefully his friend can assist in the process.
But you should be seeing him flying relevantly soon.
Please best answer. It really helps me a TON!
